jokers-asylum-two-face-cover For The Love of Reviews - Jokers Asylum Two-FaceAfter all the hype leading up to the Joker’s Asylum miniseries, I’ve been underwhelmed. Every issue has been utterly forgettable. Every one except for the last.

In Joker’s Asylum: Two-Face, David Hine has written maybe the best Two-Face story I’ve ever read, taking the “in the right situation, you could be me” premise that seemed to be the sole premise of the Joker and applying it to Two-Face and a young firefighter scarred in an inferno but otherwise happy and well-adjusted.

I’m afraid I can’t get too detailed without ruining the plot, but this story (possibly coupled with recently viewing The Dark Knight) really left me with a deep feeling of who Two-Face is and what makes him tick and the “flip a coin” finale may have been the perfect ending for a story featuring Two-Face.

I Stumbled onto your Born Laughing post, started poking around, and happened upon this review. This issue was written by David Hine. Jason Aaron only wrote the Penguin issue of Joker’s Asylum, and the the event wasn’t his idea. DC’s staff thought up the series and invited writers to submit requests for which villain’s story they’d like to write. Hine got the Two-Face, and Aaron got the Penguin.

While I found the Penguin story more interesting than I guess you did, the issues were mostly forgettable. I expected Arvid Nelson’s story to be better than it turned out because of his fantastic work with Rex Mundi. If you haven’t checked out Rex Mundi, don’t let Nelson’s Joker issue sour it for you.

The sad thing is that I knew that about the writers, but still somehow kept thinking I saw Aaron’s name on all of the issues.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake, I’ll get that corrected.

I’ve been reading Rex Mundi, and it’s quite excellent. I definitely second your recommendation on that one.

Also, I meant to say that I didn’t really dislike any of the issues, they just didn’t really do much for me. They were merely “okay”. The Penguin issue may have been better than the others, but Two-Face was still the best.

I actually enjoyed them very much. Maybe it’s just because I’m an insane fanboy for anything Batman. I’ll tell you what though, when I flipped the coin to decide the ending of the two-face book i felt like harvey dent :)

Dude… was that not the perfect ending? I still can’t get over that!
