ARTIST(S) WANTED!
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and don't forget to tip your waitress!!
Hi everybody! So, I’ve been doing a lot lately and haven’t had the chance to blog much, even though Cracker was awesome enough to give me my own log in information and everything. Summer’s just days away though, and so I should be posting a lot more.
This blog does have a purpose though. Our good pal Andrew (aka MidKnight, aka the slimy bastard who snaked the Tournament Of Champions victory out from under me) and I are both aspiring writers, looking to break in to the field of comics. It’s kind of like the Field of Dreams, except with less Ray Liotta. Anyway, Andrew is plotting his first story out, and I’m currently in the stages of writing mine. Unfortunately, neither of us have any artistic ability beyond the written word. So that’s where all you loyal readers come in.
If you’re interested in being the artist on a comic series (or two, if the workload isn’t to much for you) that will likely be released online, then hit me and/or Andrew up for details on the series. Unfortunately, there isn’t any money in the gig (unless the series is discovered online and someone offers to publish it…we can dream, right?) but you’ll get some exposure. Contacting us with a sample of your work will definitely help, but we’re willing to talk to anybody really. So if you want, contact me via email (blamethecity@hotmail.com) or AIM (LivexInxDecline), and contact Andrew at (facelessesoteric@hotmail.com) or on AIM (facelessesoteric).
Go go go!

Grrr… I do not seem to be able to post a comment here so I will try again…
Check out Zeros 2 Heroes

Submit a pitch, upload your script, get voted and if your pitch has enough votes it may be the next book that gets done with Zeros 2 Heroes Comic Creation Nation. A great way to get your toes into the industry.

Check out Zeros 2 Heroes (google it as I cannot seem to put a link in the comment — this is my third post) as you can put up your pitch, upload script pages and then pimp out your comic book idea. If the Z2H community like your idea then it might get voted to get made by Z2H in the next Comic Creation Nation by Zeros 2 Heroes. It’s a great way to get yer toes into the industry and have something published for NOTHING.
That sounds nice but they would own the rights to whatever script they print correct? I would much rather own my own ideas/characters. But I will definitely look into it.
Take a look at the contract — they are very transparent about it. From what I have heard and read, you co-own the rights but hey, if you can find another place to do a comic for free — go for it!
I am looking at getting a comic done and I cannot find a way to get it done for under $5K — that is not paying for the writing and not even talking about publishing costs.
As I mentioned, Z2H is a great way to think about getting something done and getting your name out there with something published (online/off) then you put that into your comic book resume and keep your creator owned work after you got a notch in your belt.
Anyhoo. Hope it works out for yah either way. I will be interested in checking it out!
Z2H sounds interesting, and I’ll definitely check it out, but I’d rather get something going myself, and have full control (well, control, and obviously some would go to the artist), as opposed to creating a series and then having to share it with people on a website.
That’s my main concern there AJ, having to share the ownership of my ideas and my creation with other people. But I do see where you are coming from Robert. I might give it a try, but definitely not with the hero I’ve been developing since before I even thought of writing a comic. If it’s a matter of recognition and talent with the possibility of being scouted by a company I’ll create something new and see if I can get it to go anywhere.
Note that one thing that Z2H offers that many just do not see, you create a brand(pitch) and you have a fan base once your book begins. I am sure if you join and ask some of the people who are getting their books done, they will tell you that their script and pitch only got better after the mass reviews and comments. Sure you don’t want to share your ideas out there and for that I can understand but there is a flip side of that given that Z2H will not only start a book, series for yah but you will already have an audience who WANT to see your book get published.
Again I am just offering it up as an option for you guys. I really do hope it all works out. I am doing lots of research myself to see how much involved with starting a small press studio like Arcana.
I was told one thing which I will share here — I had the opportunity to get a small comic published. Sure I haven’t done much with that in the recent while but I was told there are two people out there - people who are published and people who are not. Z2H offers you the chance, place and audience to get published and start things out for you. Are Z2H creators being scouted? I don’t really know but I know when those creators get their work published, they will have something in their hands where they go from there is up to them.
Again. I don’t mean to be preachy — sorry if I am. Just passing the info.
Also check Deviant Art (stupid comments won’t let me put in link)
Again I look forward to hearing about yer developments.
I really do appreciate the advice Robert and you have at least given me a few ideas as to what to do.
And yeah, Deviantart.com rocks. I’ve been a frequent visitor there for a while.
I’m pretty much in the same boat as you guys. I have this really killer idea for a comic and I know that if I could get it drawn up, it would be really good. I just need to…you know, get it drawn and printed.
Money would be good too.
Money usually is good. I’m just going to dive right in without the artist for now and just focus on scripting. Though I will still be looking for an artist i won’t actively be looking for one at the moment.
yeah, I’m doing the same as MidKnight.
Have the first three issues written. Gonna keep going until I finish everything and/or find myself an artist.
