Superman Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions Week Twelve ResultsFirst of all, in the interest of speeding this thing up and moving on to his next tournament, Mike is hosting the polls for both semifinal battles this week so that the final can occur next week. Make sure to get over there and vote, because both of this week’s battles are worth eight points!

Last week, Superman overpowered Hulk, but there were no breakdowns submitted, so there are no bonus points for that.

Here are the current standings:

AJ holds steady at first place with six first round points for correctly predicting victories for Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, Captain America, Green Lantern, and Hulk; six second-round points for predicting Batman’s victory over Martian Manhunter, Thor’s victory over Red Tornado, and Green Lantern’s victory over Captain America; twenty-two bonus points for posts on his myspace blog and view askew; three more bonus points for signing up for an account on The Forums of Awesome; and the ten bonus points for breakdowns this week and last for a total of FORTY-SEVEN POINTS!

Midknight has gained some ground this week with seven first round points for knowing that Batman, Thor, Red Tornado, Captain America, Green Lantern, Hulk, and Superman ain’t nothing to mess with, six second-round points for knowing that Batman and Thor REALLY ain’t nothin’ to mess with, ten bonus points for posts on ComicVine, two bonus points for pimping us on his blog, one bonus point for helping Mike search for Batboat pictures, three more bonus points for signing up with Forums of Awesome, and the ten bonus points awarded for his breakdowns the last two weeks to give him a total of THIRTY-NINE POINTS!

Midknight could easily overtake AJ this week

RJP is also still in the race in third with two first round points for supporting Batman and Red Tornado, four second round points for backing Batman and Superman, 18 bonus points for posts on Between The Staples and his Facebook account, and three bonus points for signing up for the Forums of Awesome for a total of TWENTY-SEVEN POINTS!

In fourth, Xers has four first round points with victories for Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, and Captain America, two bonus points for posts on Cre8Buzz and BlackPlanet, and three more bonus points for signing up with Forums of Awesome for a total of NINE POINTS!

Patrick D. is in fifth place with two points for backing Batman and Martian Manhunter (I wonder who he’ll pick when they fight eachother?”), two bonus points for posts on Patrick Says and his Twitter, and three more bonus points for signing up at Forums of Awesome for a total of SEVEN POINTS!

In sixth place, DougFungus has three first round points for supporting Batman, Red Tornado, and Captain America and three bonus points for signing up at Forums of Awesome for a total of SIX POINTS!

In seventh, Weston backed Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, and Captain America for a total of FOUR POINTS!

Finally, in eighth place, Naimad89 backed Batman to give him ONE POINT!

Once again, the standings are:

1st: AJ - 47 points

2nd place: Midknight- 39 points

3rd place: RJP - 25 points

4th place: Xers- 9 points

5th place: Patrick D. - 7 points

6th place: Dougfungus - 6 points

7th place Weston - 4 points

8th place: Naimad69 - 1 point

This week, Superman is throwing down with Green Lantern and Batman is taking on Thor to see who will meet in the final round of the Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions!

I’ll elaborate in the comments on Mike’s poll, but I’ll tell you my predictions now - Thor and Green Lantern in the final round.

Protest all you like, but remember this - I have yet to be wrong on an Awesome Arena pick.

Once again, don’t forget to vote in both of Mike’s polls and tell us who you think will win and why in the comments either there or here for a shot at a total of sixteen points! And don’t forget to tell me how your pick will win for a chance at five bonus points!

Also, Mike has asked me to let everyone know that the polls close this Friday instead of Sunday.

This game is still not over, folks.

Let’s get it on!

I don’t mean to rain on your parade but Superman is taking on Green Lantern, not Green Arrow. Also, I should mention it here too, that the two rounds will be ending this Friday as opposed to this Sunday.

I’m going to do a preview on Saturday for the final round on Monday.

crap, lemme fix that.

Thor would completely under estimate Bats and the man who planned how to take down ALL the heroes in his universe would know a way to take down Thor and would.

Even though Hal has the will, Supes would find a way to push Hal to his breaking point and on this I believe the alien in Superman would beat the human in Green Lantern.

Leading up to the big Batman vs Superman show down. :P

Perhaps, but I’m not sure that Thor has a weakness that Batman could exploit and I’m not sure that “alien” necessarily beats “human”, especially when the human possesses the most powerful weapon in his universe.

Going with Batman and Superman to win their Matches, here’s a breakdown of the Batman Vs. Thor fight, I’ll be back later with a write up for Supes and pimpage:

Two Weeks Ago at Stark Tower:

“Knocked out in the first round, pathetic….” Tony Stark thinks to himself as he drowns his sorrow deep in a bottle of Jack Daniels. “Fallen off of the wagon I see.” Stark quickly looks behind himself, startled, “What the hell are you doing here?!” A Cloaked figure steps out of the shadows and scowls down at Tony, takes the glass out of his hands and pours it out onto the floor. “You have something that I need.” the Dark Figure replies, “And why should I help you, Batman?!” Tony Stark snarls back at the Bat. Batman reaches into his utility belt and pulls out a cell phone and begins dialing a number but does not send the call. “Because with one call, Stark enterprises will suffer from a hostile takeover at the hands of Wayne Enterprises, just one call and your company is mine!” Tony sighs and looks down at his feet, “Damnit Bruce, what do you want?” He asks, giving in to Batman’s demands, “I need a sample of Thor’s DNA. I know you have some, you used it to create your Cyborg Thor, now give me what I came here for.”

One week ago in Las Vegas Backstage in the Amazing Zattanna’s dressing room:

“You want me to do WHAT?!” Zattana asks. “I need your help…” replies Batman, “I need your help to defeat a God.” Batman hands her the sample of Thor’s DNA, “I know you won’t do this for free, so take this as payment. The DNA of a God.” Zatanna accepts and looks up at Batman, “Bruce I don’t know if I can do this, I mean I’ve taken down some big hitters before but I have NEVER tried to beat a God, especially not the God of Thunder!” Zatanna says, “I don’t need you to beat him, Zatanna. I need you to make me a weapon so that I can beat him. I’ve done some research and I discovered that Thor is not entirely invulnerable. If I can take his hammer out of the picture he reverts to his mortal self, and that’s where you come in. His hammer is vulnerable to magic.”

Present Day at The Awesome Arena:

Thor enters the ring not knowing what to expect, he’d never faced The Batman before, but is not worried in the slightest. After all, Batman has no powers, a mere mortal can not defeat a God. Batman enters the ring and glares at Thor, sizing up his opponent, knowing that if it weren’t for the tiny scroll rolled up and neatly tucked away in his utility belt, it would already be over. “Ding! Ding!” the bell sounds and the fight is on! Thor flies out of his corner charging at Batman, Batman dives to his left, dodging Thor. Thor slams into a wall, he didn’t think a mortal could move so fast, he looks up just soon enough to see 3 batarangs slicing and tearing through the air towards him. He swats them away with his might Hammer. Then he throws Mjolnir at Batman, that’s the cue. Batman quickly pulls the scroll out of his utility belt and begins chanting the sacred text inscribed upon the brittle piece of parchment. Thor’s Mighty Hammer soars through the air, closer and closer, as Batman chants the last line on the parchment, “WHAT BELONGS IN THE HEAVENS SHALL RETURN TO THE HEAVENS! I BANISH THE MIGHTY HAMMER OF THOR, MJOLNIR BACK TO ASGARD!” Suddenly the hammer vanishes into thin air, Thor looks at Batman, stunned as he began reverting to his mortal self, Jake Olsen, as Batman leaps across the ring and lands a hard right to Jake Olsen’s chin, knocking the mortal self of The Mighty Thor, unconscious. Batman has Defeated a God.

Hmmm… maybe, but it’s an awful lot to take for granted that Batman would get that opening, considering Thor could just call down the lightning and fry his ass.

I suppose we shall see.

The way I see it, Thor wouldn’t just call down lightning and take down Batman, I would think that he would use that as a last option type of thing seeing as how he’s a God and Batman has no powers. It’s just my guess that he would underestimate Batman so badly that he would try to shrug him off. I probably should have stressed that more in the write up.

Write up for Superman Vs. Green Lantern:

“I don’t want to do this…” Green Lantern thinks to himself, “Superman is a close friend of mine I can’t do this.” Superman stands opposite from GL thining the same thing. “Ding! Ding!” the bell sounds and The Man of Steel says to Green Lantern, “I’m sorry Hal.” Superman flies out of his corner charging at GL. Hal quickly constructs a shield to guard himself from Clark but it shatters on impact with Superman. Green Lantern gasps as Superman charges again. Jordan creates two giant fists and swings at Superman hitting him mid-air and knocking him to the ground. Lantern begins pummeling Superman, each hit fracturing his construct. Hal Jordan doesn’t have the willpower to win this fight and hesitates for a second, he’s sweating and hyperventilating, he can’t breathe. His constructs disappear and he falls to his knees, “God no, Hal!” Superman rushes to the side of his friend, “I can’t do this Clark, you’re my friend, I won’t.” Superman wins due to forfeit.

(Yeah that one’s kinda cheesy but it’s hard for me to imagine them actually fighting.)

But dude… nobody underestimates Batman.

Thor has NEVER encountered Batman before. He would definitely underestimate him. Thor would not have paid attention to him. Just Imagine if your were a God and out of nowhere some mere mortal challenges you, you would underestimate him.

Although Batman is very resourceful. He is still limited as a mortal and the gear he brings into the fight. The only chance he has in this fight is too know some kind of angle that would give him him sort of advantage in the fight and cheat but I dont see it. Being from different universes and not knowing Thor, I doubt Bat’s could come up with any game plan to combat a God. Thor manhandled Iron Man during their last encounter, so technology means nothing in this fight. Thor is a warrior I doubt he wouldmt underestimate a fellow warrior like Batman.

The Supes vs Gl fight I chose Gl because we’ve seen the Supes vs Bats fight way too often, a fight between Supes vs Thor would be too evenly matched and boring since they have similar abilites. The fight I want to see is a God vs a man wielding a weapon of Godlike power.

I have to agree with you Crackuh. I’m thinking Green Lantern and Thor, which works out because I like Green Lantern better than Superman, but Batman better than Thor, so I get one out of my prefered two.

Be back in a few with pimage and breakdowns.
