Anyway, on with the show!
Welcome, one an all, to the results segment of Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions. For the sake of simplicity, Mike and I decided to move everything into one central location, so you’ll be able to fulfill all your T.O.C needs right here.
Of course, you’re always welcome to visit Mike’s battle announcements and polls to award points, so no more stressing out or giving yourself carpal tunnel syndrome commenting everywhere.
Sound good? Awesome (pardon the pun), let’s get started.
The commentary of last week’s battle comes to us via the legendary Midknight. Midknight has been awarded five bonus points.
The Hulk and Wolverine enter the ring. Wolverine trash talks a little which just pisses the Hulk off more. The bell sounds and the two combatants blast out of the corners, charging at one another. Wolverine gets there first with his trademark claws out and ready for rippin’. He ducks below the Hulk and stabs him in the back of his right thigh and his left kidney. The Hulk roars in pain. Wolverine just fucked himself. The Hulk swings around violently, tossing Wolverine back first into his own corner. The Hulk charges after him and lands a huge fist right in Wolverines face. Wolverine is out cold but The Hulk isn’t done just yet. He follows up his attack with some major blows to the body, causing Wolverine massive internal bleeding. Finally the Hulk lifts Wolverine compact frame clear over his head and throws him clear out of the arena.
HULK WINS!!! My prediction streak continues!
Thanks, Midknight - your bonus points will be reflected in the current standings. The same deal goes this week, folks. Give me your best commentary on how you think this week’s battle between Superman and Sentry will go. The person whom I judge the winner will receive five bonus points. As you’ll be able to see, this can give you a pretty big boost. And make this one good, folks - Mike’s been waiting for this battle almost two months now!
Speaking of standings, here they are:
AJ is holding onto his lead with six first round points for correctly predicting victories for Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, Captain America, Green Lantern, and Hulk, sixteen bonus points for posts on his myspace blog and view askew, and three more bonus points for signing up for an account on The Forums of Awesome for a total of TWENTY-FIVE POINTS!

There’s still Ultimate Hulk vs Wolverine and the first appearance of Wolverine. I don’t think Wolvie’s EVER beaten Hulk.
I know, I’m horrible… you obviously need to step up your game this week so that I don’t have to eeney-meeney-miney-moe it again.
The moe don’t like ya, AJ. =op
Wow, week got away from me again. I’ll have my pick, my pimpage, and my breakdown, all tommorow…but tonight, I’m too worn out from fucking Iron Man!
I’ll save most of what I have to say for the discussion, but I can’t hold it in…I was blown away. Daaamn.
I know, I’m having a hard time holding back until the discussion starts tomorrow night.
Iron Man was far better than I had any right to even imagine.
I know man, it was crazy.
Anyway, heres my breakdown, and at the end you’ll see my pick for the week (with the breakdown explaining why)
Superman and Sentry…the two powerhouses. The one that started it all, and the counterpart that appeared sixty-odd years later. The two goliaths step in to the ring. Both of them look uneasy at having to battle a fellow hero. When finally the match begins, they stalk around for a moment, exchanging words, before finally Sentry flies towards Superman.
Its on.
They battle furiously, matching one another punch for punch, kick for kick, inch for inch. They whiz around the arena, a blur of violent motion. Superman tries to break his opponent’s fighting spirit and play a mental game, but The Sentry won’t have it (maybe Superman killed his wife or something, since I don’t think she can go more than four issues without dying and then being brought back). The battle rages for close to an hour before finally Superman grabs the Sentry and they fly out of the arena, out of the atmosphere, up up and away in to space. The fight continues all the way up, and now Superman is gaining the edge, as he is closer to the Sun, drawing more power from it. The Sentry, panicking a little and not realizing what is giving Superman the upperhand, angrily grabs Clark and tosses him in to the sun (as he had done to his arch-nemisis, the Void). Reynolds catches his breath, thinking for a moment he has defeated a legend.
That is, until Superman rises from the sun, and stands on its surface. This is Superman as we’ve never seen him before. Superman at the highest level of power he has ever experienced. He is surrounded by flames, his eyes completely red. He stares at The Sentry, and the Sentry knows he fucked up.
And then Supes is impaled from behind by…you guessed it…THE VOID! The Void has speared Clark Kent with an “infini-tendril”, forcing Clark to relive terrible experiences from his past, present, and future. Sentry takes this oppourtunity to charge back in to the fray and attack Superman, who manages to pull himself lose of the tendril, only to now face two opponents. Still, he is jacked from the Sun’s energy, and now the furious battle resumes. As the fight continues, each opponent begins drawing more and more power from the sun.
Eventually, the Void and the Sentry combine in to one massivly powered being, with the Sentry showing willingness to embrase his darkside to win this fight. The now two combatants plunge in to the Sun’s core, battling to a standstill once again.
A climax is only reached when Superman realizes that the strain of their battle and amount of energy they are absorbing and releasing has begun to overload the sun. Realizing that if they keep fighting, it will cause a cataclysmic supernova, destroying the Earth. The Big Boyscout explains this to Sentry, only to realize that the Void is in complete control now. Superman uses as much power as he can muster to fling Sentry/Void out of the Sun. Then, realizing that all the power they had absorbed has still left the sun damaged from the fight, Superman selflessly sacrifices himself to restore the Sun to its glory.
Sentry, witnessing this noble act, manages to overcome the Void and once again banish him. He then stands the victor, but a victor who must carry the burden of everything he has cost the world.
There ya go, I took the Sentry this week, but only after realizing that the Sentry would call out the Void sooner or later, and Superman is a sucker for the whole sacrificing himself deal, which I think would happen during this even match.
…interesting.
Ok, kids, it looks like that AJ will automatically get the five bonus points if Sentry wins, no matter how much I disagree with him on this one.
Will nobody challenge the AJ?!
Hah, I figured you would disagree, but it just seems classic Superman to me. Superman is selfless, and lives to protect people, while the Sentry seems like the opposite, a more selfish person, while still being a hero.
You should write up a battle where Supes wins, even if you can’t get the points. I wanna see what you think would happen.
It looks like I’ll HAVE to do a write-up when Superman wins, unless anyone steps up before Monday.
I dunno, it’s just hard for me to take Sentry seriously on any level, so it will probably even be hard to write up him getting his ass kicked.
As Posted on the “Official” site:
Goin with Supes on this one. I didn’t have time to do a write up and i don’t have much time so i’ll give you this:
The bell sounds as the Man of Steel enters the arena slowly floating down from the skylight. He glances down to see that Sentry has yet to show so he takes the time to mentally prepare and stretch a bit. You don’t want to pull a hammy ya know? Half an hour passes by and still no sign of Sentry. The audience looks around at each other confused. A little while longer passes by and a scrawny referee enters the ring with a cell phone is his hand. A microphone is lowered and the referee puts the cell phone on speaker and holds it up to the mic. It’s Sentry calling to forfeit the match because he’s afraid of leaving his house and blames it all on agorophobia. Superman shrugs and celebrates.

Pimpage 2: http://facelessesoteric.wordpress.com/2008/05/04/round-8/ (yeah the blog looks shitty i just started making it then forgot about it)

I will still comment on both places!
Can’t believe that the Hulk won. I wonder if the World War Bulk: X-Men book never came out, if The Hulk would have still won? Hmmm…
