TAGGED! Or: Humouring the Girlfriend So That She Doesn’t Dump Me
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and don't forget to tip your waitress!!
I normally refuse to do these on principle, but the boss tagged me and, considering she’s actually willing to be seen in public with me, I decided it would be prudent to comply with her wishes.
Here thar be rules:
1) you link back to the person who tagged you.
2) post these rules on your blog.
3) share six unimportant things about yourself.
4) tag six random people at the end of your entry.
5) let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs.
I’ll tag six people, but the tagged ones should feel no obligation to continue this meme unless they feel like it. I know most of you are like me and refuse on principle. No hard feelings.
Anyway, here we go:
- I still haven’t read 100 Bullets, Y: The Last Man, From Hell, or many other “classic” or “must read” series and graphic novels.
- Generally speaking, I don’t like comics published before 1980.
- I’ve never seen Casablanca, Gone With The Wind, Scarface, or any of the Godfather movies. Most of my friends take great offense at this.
- Until I was born, my parents were certain that I would be a girl. My name was to be “Michelle”.
- My dad claims I was named after Dustin Hoffman. I’m not sure whether or not he’s joking.
- As you may guess from me abandoning my principles to please my darling girlfriend, I may be slightly whipped.
As for tagging, let’s go with …
Patrick Says,
RJP of Between The Staples,
Mike Y from My Weekly Obsession,
Tim of Your Comic Relief,
Any of the folks at Panels of Awesome,
and the great and all-powerful JC Hutchins.

Note 1: There are about 50,000 movies that far far
Big Tom Casual | April 15, 2008 | 11:29 pmNote 1: There are about 50,000 movies that far far surpass Scarface in every way. Don’t let your moronic friends’ commitment to buying into pop-cultural ham fisted opinions make you feel like it’s something you have to see. Just because a bunch of wanna be thugs on MTV Cribs like to toss Tony Montana posters around doesn’t mean it’s some masterpiece. Speaking as someone with a film production degree — it actually kind of blows. I realize the self serving plug is lame, but hopefully it helped make a point. Scarface is about the most overrated thing out there. If you haven’t seen HEAT by Michael Mann starring Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro and about a dozen other well known people — then there’s no reason to even be considering watching Scarface. Watch Heat. Oh boy definitely watch Heat.
Note 2: Godfather 1 & 2 are at least as good as they’re made out to be, probably better. Even the era-telling fake looking violence seems genius. Of all the things you admitted to not having seen/read/whatever — these are the least forgivable.
Note 3: Watching Godfather 3 is akin to sin. Do NOT watch it. Even though the first two will make you really really want to…DON’T.
Note 4: If your girlfriend is truly darling, own that whippedness like it’s your greatest achievement.
Note 5: At least you would have been Michelle. I would have been Heidi. Bleh.
Note 6: Read ‘Y’ and ‘From Hell’ before ‘100 Bullets’. The latter is rather pedestrian in comparison.
Note 7: I hope your girlfriend's name isn't Heidi.

wow. I truly didn't expect you to do this.
Rhonda | April 16, 2008 | 8:41 amwow. I truly didn’t expect you to do this. you never cease to amaze me. You must really love me.
A) Thanks for not tagging me (but I don't have
AJ | April 16, 2008 | 4:07 pmA) Thanks for not tagging me (but I don’t have a blog anyway, nor would I have done it)
B) Not seeing the Godfather…it really is offensive. I have a friend who is a member of SAG. When he told me he’d never seen the Godfather, I took his membership card away and told him he wasn’t allowed to be an actor anymore.
C) Godfather Three is kinda lame…to put it really nicely.
D) Y: The Last Man, From Hell, and 100 Bullets are all baddass.
Oh, and BTC, as a a film student/film nerd/newbie writer-director
AJ | April 16, 2008 | 4:12 pmOh, and BTC, as a a film student/film nerd/newbie writer-director (first feature sometime this year, maybe? holla), I’d have to say you’re being a bit to harsh on Scarface. It’s a great flick.
Still, can’t deny that Heat is waaaay better.
AJ - I've read the novel that the movies are
Crackerbob | April 16, 2008 | 6:37 pmAJ – I’ve read the novel that the movies are based on, so that factors heavily into me not being overly anxious about not seeing them – I know how it all ends.
You’ll have to let me check out that feature when you get it made.
Also, as you can see, the girlfriend's name is not
Crackerbob | April 16, 2008 | 6:39 pmAlso, as you can see, the girlfriend’s name is not Heidi and yes, I do really love her.
Sorry, man, can't do it. I'd rather watch a season
Patrick D. | April 16, 2008 | 10:57 pmSorry, man, can’t do it. I’d rather watch a season of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ than do most memes. And I hate Tyra Banks.
But congrats on being whipped. It’s not a bad way to be, in my opinion. Sure, there’s the loss of some freedom, but you get to play with Barbie while your friends are still playing with their GI Joes.
(Was the metaphor too thick there? I’m never sure.)
Trust me, despite knowing the end, it is most definitely
AJ | April 18, 2008 | 5:28 pmTrust me, despite knowing the end, it is most definitely worth the watch, even if, and especially because, you’ve read the novel, which is equally great.
And, will do sir. I like the “when”, not if, ha.
Of course "when", gotta think affirmatively!
