Ok folks, I’m typing this out with one eye, so this post will definitely be short and possibly contain typographical errors. You have my apologies and I’ll correct any typos ASAP.
With that out of the way, here we go.
Captain America and Booster Gold both step into the arena. Gold, unable to resist bragging, starts listing all of his powers. Flight, enhanced strength, force fields, matter absorption, yadda yadda yadda. Unimpressed, Cap punches Booster in the jaw and knocks him out.
On to the standings.
AJ (still from the vicious, vicious Civil Blitzkrieg) maintains his lead with four points for picking Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, and Captain America as winners and ten bonus points for posts on the ViewAskew boards and his Myspace page, for a total of fourteen points!
RJP of Between The Staples is hanging strong for someone so frequently wrong with 2 points for his faith in Batman and Red Tornado and ten bonus points for posts on Between the Staples and his facebook account, for a total of twelve points.
Midknight is right on their tails with four points for supporting Batman, Thor, Red Tornado, and Captain America five bonus points for posts on his ComicVine blog and one more bonus point for helping Mike with his search for a batboat for a total of ten points.
Xers is holding strong in fourth place with four points for picking Martian Manhunter, Thor, and Red Tornado and two bonus points for posts on Black Planet and Cre8Buzz, for a total of six points
Patrick D. and Weston are now tied for fifth with four points each. Patrick has two points for his faith in Batman and Martian Manhunter and two bonus points for posts on his blog and twitter and Weston has four points for picking Martian Manhunter, Thor, Red Tornado, and Captain America.
DougFungus is standing in sixth with three points for backing Batman, The Red Tornado, and Captain America
Finally, in seventh place, Naimad89 has one point for supporting Batman in his week one victory.
As in every previous week, bonus points are making a difference - make sure you pick up an advantage by telling all your friends about this contest and letting me know about the pimpage!
Also, Mike is giving away three bonus points to anyone signing up for the Forums of Awesome! Y’all should take advantage of that one.
Once again, here are the current standings:
1st place: AJ - 14 points
2nd place: RJP - 12 points
3rd place: MidKnight - 10 points
4th place: Xers- 6 points
5th place: tie Patrick D. and Weston - 4 points
6th placeDougfungus - 3 points
7th place: Naimad69 - 1 point
This week, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) will be taking on his longtime friend and occasional partner, Green Arrow (Ollie Queen) in a battle of Galactic-level versus street-level battling.
Can Ollie find a way to overcome the overwhelming power of Hal’s ring? Let us know by voting in Mike’s poll at Panels of Awesome and then coming back over here to make yourself heard and collect your potential point.
Also, don’t forget to pick up three bonus points by signing up for a Forums of Awesome account!
As for me, I’m going to go rest this eye and see if I can become a functioning member of society once again.

Going with Green Lantern. Hesitantly.
Pimpage: http://www.comicvine.com/myvine/MidKnight/blog/&blogId=28620
Also I signed up on the forum gimme some points
Green Arrow ’cause Hal has the willpower but not the ku’hones to finish the job since Hal would be too worried to go “dark”. Arrow takes out the ring finger while another arrow into the throat. Hal down. Hal down.
And this coming from someone who loves Alan Scott GL along with Guy.
Also I sign up to the forum, I plan to start going on there when I got more drugs to trip out and then start with the flames. Green flames go!
Now I need to find bad images of Green Lantern and kewl images of Green Arrow for a good BtS post. ![]()
As you wish, Rhonda love - I’ll work on that in a bit. Everyone, meet my hot girlfriend Rhonda. Now stop drooling.
Midknight, why hesitant?
Robert, are you really questioning the ability of someone who almost singlehandedly destroyed the GL Corps and is a former host to the Spirit of Vengeance to “go dark”?
Also, I believe Mike is tallying the forum bonus points and will be letting me know who to award them to at the end of the week.
But I could be wrong.
[...] For The Love of Comics week 6 discussion http://www.fortheloveofcomics.com/2008/04/14/awesome-arena-tournament-of-champions-week-five-results... [...]
Okay Hal would never want to “go dark” again and as the “spirit of Vengeance” he wasn’t even close to Jim Corrigan Spirit of Vengeance. Also I think it was deemed that it was never Hal that did all the badness against the original GL Corps but The Parrallax was the one who did such horrors.
No I do not think Hal can go dark or would ever allow himself to.
Ollie could go dark and has in the past. Plus Ollie can use the power ring, Hal can’t shoot an arrow to save his life. For me that shows that Hal is a one trick pony whereas Ollie is a true fighter. Maybe not like WildCat fighter but more of a rumble boy than Hal whos just an airboy!
Hal may not WANT to go dark, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t go dark again if he needed to. I’d bet that this gets explored in “Darkest Night” - how far is Hal willing to go?
Everyone keeps making excuses about Hal wasn’t responsible for his actions as Parallax - fuck that noise he did it and, while he may not like the idea - he just may do it again if he felt it was necessary. He and everyone else needs to face up to that fact. He did it, quit trying to whitewash it.
Finally, I’ve conceded that Hal is doomed without his ring, but getting him away from that ring is nowhere near as easy as you make it seem.
I like Green Arrow alot more than Green Lantern and I’d like to see him win, but I’m not convinced that he would.
I second your all-Green Lantern battle.
I have a few suggestions for battles, depending on where Mike decides to go with it after this tournament.
Hey man, what’d I miss the past few days? Something happened to your eye?
Anyway, I know you said Mike is probably tallying the forum memberships, but just in case, heres a link to my first post as a member of the Forum (http://www.panelsofawesome.com/forum/topic.php?id=10&replies=2#post-29).
I’ll be back with my pick and pimage for the week later on.
Nothing too serious, just a minor scratch to my right eyeball, it’s mostly healed.
Also, by no means did I intend to discourage everyone from letting me know that you signed up for the forums - it never hurts to have a backup!
I’m hesitant because I really love both characters. Hal Jordan is a classic and Green Arrow is extremely kickass. The main reason why I have my doubts is because I know they have a history with each other and I think that if it really came down to it that would be a major factor.
I know, I know…..but I’m sticking to my guns and casting in a point for Queen.
As far as powers and history goes: yeah Hal’s got it in the bag. But hey, I’m gonna stick with my homeboy on this one.
Honestly, I really would like Ollie to win, I just think the odds are against him.
We’re coming into the battles where I don’t think my favorites will be winning.
Wow! This week flew by. I was super busy and didn’t get a chance to cast my vote.
My vote this week is for Green Lantern. I’m just more familiar with the character, really dig all the incarnations, and think that though the battle would be really close, the Ring would come out victorious.
Meanwhile, I’m off to NEW YORK COMIC CON! Bout to leave my hotel room and head over. Cracka, if you’re interested, I’d be down for a write up.
Dude, I would TOTALLY be interested in you doing a write-up! Just send it over whenever you have time and I’ll throw it up with a quickness!
I’m completely jealous, NYCC sounds like it’s going to be a great show. Enjoy it!
Also, anytime you’d like to do a guest post, I’m totally interested in throwing it up.
That goes for everyone else reading this, too. The mechanics of how to handle it all long-term are simmering in the back of my head, but I’m always open to guest posts for anyone who wants to make themselves heard.
Right on. i was going to send you something for tonight, but since all I did was walk around and take free shit for an hour and a half, it wasn’t very interesting. I’ll be attending a bunch of panels tommorow, so I’ll probably do the write up for both days either tommorow night or Sunday afternoon (depending on how exhausted I am after putting in around ten hours at the Con tommorow).
And yes, I will certainly enjoy, as it was awesome already!
And certainly I’ll do guest posts if I ever have something simmering. Perhaps you could put together a type of Roundtable review for the various comic/action/awesome flicks that come out this summer?
That’s an excellent idea!
Maybe a round table about our impressions of the two big events once they’ve ended, too. Occasional round table postmortems, so to speak.
I think so, too. Especially since it really hinges on one factor - whether or not Green Arrow can get the ring away from Green Lantern.
It makes me wish I’d set up a bonus point system for people letting me know how they think Green Arrow could neutralize the ring. But it does give me an idea for another bonus point opportunity starting with the new battle.

Love you!
