Y The Last Man Project – All Your Opinions Are Belong To Me
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting and don't forget to tip your waitress!!
I’ve tried several times to get into Y: The Last Man, but every time I realized that I had just missed out on too many issues and didn’t really grasp all the nuances of what was going on. Finally I decided that I’d just wait until the series ended and pick up all the trades.
Now that Y is finally over, a friend has loaned me all of the floppies so that I can get started reading. This presents a unique opportunity – I’ve decided to post my impressions as I read the issues, which will let all of you who have already read the series laugh at me as I flounder through the twists and turns of the plot. I figure it could be fun.
But I need your opinions -should I try to do it like the rundowns of Messiah Complex – although hopefully more skillfully – with several issues per post, but enumerating my thoughts on each issue? Should I just do lump posts of arcs without really mentioning individual issues? Should I try to do it in a different way? Should I do this at all?
Megacon is this weekend, so I don’t really think I’ll get around to starting this project until next Monday or Tuesday. That gives you about a week to weigh in with your thoughts.
So speak up, people – I really need your opinions!

AJ | March 4, 2008 | 7:12 pmThe best way I can think of would to do it Issue by Issue (finish one, post opinions/theories that we can laugh at, then post the next the next day, or whenever you’re free). That way, you get to share the “oh-em-gee” moments at the end of various issues fresh off of experiencing them. It wouldn’t even have to be its own post each day, it could be in addendum to whatever you happen to be posting.
Though several issues at a time or each arc would take less time, it would lose some of the appeal of the “alot of you read this but I havent” lolercoaster ride.

Crackerbob | March 4, 2008 | 7:16 pmHmmm… I like the way you’re thinking, but I just worry about not having enough content per issue, especially on the ones that I don’t have alot of thoughts on.
I mean, did you notice that the New X-Men chapters of MC got like… two lines, and those mostly consisted of “Don’t really care about any of these kids”?
Still, I spose I could just gloss over those and go on to the next issue in the same post. How does that strike you?
yeah, that seems like a good idea. I mean, not
AJ | March 4, 2008 | 7:54 pmyeah, that seems like a good idea. I mean, not ever issue has an “ohmigodohmigodohmigod” ending, so if it doesn’t I’d just give a brief mention and move onto the next, more noteworthy issue.
Still, if you have to stop yourself, even for ten minutes to post, after each issue, it brings you a little closer to the experience you get when you follow a month.

I’m liking your idea more and more… if I do at least one issue a day, that’s an easy schedule to keep up with. I could start tomorrow and easily keep it up during Megacon.

Robert | March 5, 2008 | 2:14 pmMy thought is that doing a post after each issue is very common comic book reviewish. Like I do w/ the Best Bang on BtS but I wish I could do story arcs, like collect X number of comics and say “The latest X-Factor story arc was more than decent for a mutie comic book. It gave me the thrill of watching a soap opera with a nice mix of action jackson.”.
So I would be more inclined to read reviews of the story arcs than single issue adventures. my two canuck bits.
Hmmm... I see your point.
