Yes, this is issue is quite a debacle! The way this industry has shaped itself over these decades, one can’t do without the other to bring high entertainment value and important messages to the masses.
As a writer, only with hopes of having my work someday developed in the hollywood machine, the corporate raiders are just doing what they know to do - be assholes. They ARE NOT artistically creative individuals. Therefore, they will never understand that perspective. They are only creative with business models that they develop to feed their incurable, insatiable greeds for power.
Power which brings us to this situation. Unfortunately, there are no winners here becaue the table is lop-sided and the cor-pirates have two too many full decks and money that runs very deep - global streams of income. The cor-pirates can wait the writers out for months or even a year before they add a few more PENNIES on the dollar, or an extra percentage POINT, to what they owe writers. And, writers will have to settle because they will need to eat and live and feed their own power struggles within their circle of image-minders and smiling faces.
So, writers you better know what you are doing all this hard work for. Decades, centuries come and go, but the best stories continue to be told throughout all of time. Not ever story rises to the top, but the excitement, the honor could most certainly come to be yours! And, no emipre, no amount of money, no prestigous power, can asunder your stories that need to be written, heard, performed, sold, played, read, told if that story you wrote is meant to be the one to put before the masses.
As writers, let’s continue to fight for what is due to us, put always know very well where the real power lies and that our much-needed and important journey is sho’ ’nuff guaranteed to be different than anybody else’s.
Peace! And, keep writing!

Writers have ALWAYS been treated like plantation slaves. This is nothing new. Just like the extremely old joke “Did you hear the one about the retarded actress? The one who fucked the writer!??” Creativity & vision are always going to play second fiddle to pushy middle management types & slick overfed hucksters who talk & talk & talk but say nothing. The only time that writers EVER get the upper hand… are times like now. Because for all their bluster & ego & fundraising abilities, most Hollywood types can’t even READ, much less WRITE. And so when they think they can get by without authors - that “anybody can come up with ideas! Hell, I get ‘ideas all the time!” that’s when the quality takes a nosedive, the ratings start to slip & the big shots are reminded… again… that without wordsmiths, they got nothin’…
